First Nations Partnerships
Tercon is an industry leader in partnering with First Nations and currently has three Limited Partnerships.
In Northwestern British Columbia we are partnering with the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation where we had a contract to construct 55 kms of high mountainous road. Unfortunately the owner put the project on hold to re-study the capital cost after we were approximately one third completed. We have recently signed a contract to construct a road for a new mine which will be our second development project with TNDC.
In Fort McMurray, Alberta, we have been partnered with the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation since 2004 where we secured our first contract with Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. This partnership remains a going concern with equipment and personnel now working at two of the oil sands plants.
Our third partnership will begin bidding work in July of 2008 with the target market at this time being private hydro electric developers.
In both cases above our relationships with the bands development groups are strong, open and honest. This is undoubtedly the first step in a successful relationship. It is our intent to ensure that the arrangements we make with first nations are fair and equitable for both parties with the socio-economic and economic benefits to extend beyond the initial project.
